UPDATE: FSUPD officer recovering from a separated pelvis after morning crash

January 8, 2012

The Florida State University police officer that was struck in an early morning crash is still at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare recovering from a separated pelvis.

Rachel Bray-Stiles, TMH spokeswoman says that Micheal Rodes is "in good condition."

According to the crash report, William Brown, the driver of a Chevy Cruz struck Rodes' motorcycle at about 6:15 a.m.on Old Bainbridge Road near Portland Avenue intersection.

Brown told police that he overestimated the distance between his vehicle and Rodes' motorcycle.

Brown's Chevy hit the back of the motorcycle. The impact threw Rodes from the bike and caused his injuries.

According to the report, Brown was issued a ticket for failure to yield the right of way and making an improper left turn.

A Florida State University Police Department officer was injured on his way to work on Sunday around 6:15 a.m. on Old Bainbridge Road while riding his motorcycle.

The officer was "banged up," in the accident, but FSUPD spokesman Maj. Jim Russell says his outlook looks good. The officer is still at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, but has had visitors from the police department, Russell said.

Russell said the officer was on his company-issued motorcycle when the crash happened. He said the Tallahassee Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
