History
The Dori Slosberg Foundation is a non-governmental, not for profit, public service organization dedicated to traffic safety. The foundation is named in memory of Dori Slosberg the daughter of State Representative Irving "Irv" Slosberg, whose life tragically ended when the car she was in crashed while she was unbuckled.
Established in 2004, our foundation received non-profit status in 2005 and is an influential force in reversing the deadly statistics our roadways produce.
We offer an extensive variety of programs:
-
STAYING ALIVE ON 95, 75 & FLORIDA'S ROADWAYS
This program brings together individuals concerned with safety on Interstate 95, 75 and all major Florida Roadways. This group of professionals and law enforcement develops ways to make driving on Florida’s major roadways safer. This program is showcased by our annual event in June which addresses the many issues on I-95, the officers in attendance leave determined to crack down on dangerous driving behavior.
-
DUI 0 TOLERANCE
This annual program brings together DUI law enforcement officers and officials to honor them in their efforts to make the roadways safer for all of us. Statistics from DUI’s are collected from the officers at this program and following the saturation that takes place for a 48 hour period. DUI survivors and victim’s families speak for a no-tolerance policy for all DUI offenders. Their heartfelt stories of loss and tragedy demand changes to DUI policy and enforcement.
-
DRIVER’S EDUCATION & SAFE TEEN DRIVING PROGRAMS
This is a vital component of high school education. We have set out to make sure that students have the opportunity to take this life saving course and behind -the –wheel training prior to getting their licenses to drive. Education and practice is key to teaching our youth how to drive safely and responsibly and we have added digital textbooks to the driver education classes through a pilot program underwritten by the Geico Philanthropic Co. The foundation holds safety assemblies across the state to further educate students of the importance of seat belt use and eliminating distractions while driving. Local law enforcement and officials participate in the majority of these life saving programs. The foundation hosts an annual Driver Education Conference for teachers and administrators from across the state to make sure that our students have motivated instructors who have the most up to date information on all aspects of driving and associated technology.
-
SAFE SENIOR TRANSPORTATION
The foundation assists those that are unable to drive due to age or disability in finding alternate means of transportation. Through our Senior Transportation Conferences we offer a one stop location to get information on both alternative transportation options and through the Department of transportation “Flow Mobile” they can renew their licenses, take eye exams and everything else that one needs to travel to the DMV for in their own community. Officials and experts speak in a safety forum offering tips on safe senior driving and when to find alternatives.
